Our Story

About SSHCS

The Southern Suburbs Hindu Cultural Society (SSHCS) is a community based organization located in the South of Johannesburg and has been in existence for the past 32 years. Over the many years it has been actively involved in providing cultural and social services to both the Hindu community and the broader public in the region. These services include the hosting of religious events such as Shivratri, Krishna Jayanti, Navratri, etc which take place at Sir John Adamson High School Hall in Robertsham or at President Hoer School in Ridgeway. These events typically include bhajans (devotional songs), cultural performances, and communal prayers, reflecting their commitment to preserving and promoting Hindu traditions locally. The SSHCS has also embarked on a number of community projects such as the Community Health Day, the Annual Winter Collection Drive, the Annual Underprivileged Feeding Scheme and the Hosting of Seminars.

Our Main Objectives are to cohesively integrate our communities and ensure that we have a future for the younger generation to look up to and create a sustainable environment for all. Our aim is to create a sacred space for the younger generation to transmit cultural values, languages, arts and rituals by offering classes, workshops and cultural programs and for the community to deepen their spiritual beliefs, promote cultural heritage, foster education, provide community service and to contribute to economic development in the area.
